Yellowknife Forklift Parts - Yellowknife is situated on the northern coast of Great Slave Lake within the Northwest Territories and is the province's capital city. The Arctic Circle lies approximately 400 km north of the city of Yellowknife. The Dene tribe of the area, the 'Copper Indians', were responsible for naming the city and the waters within the nearby area. The population in the city of Yellowknife is culturally diverse. There are 11 official languages within the Northwest Territories, but only approximately five are spoken in Yellowknife. The economy suffered through a read decline in the 1990's after the closure of several gold mines and the 1999 downsizing of the government workforce. The diamond boom, which began during 1991 when a diamond mine was discovered just north of the city of Yellowknife, has played a significant part in the recovery of the city. BHP Billiton operates and owns the Ekati Diamond Mine which opened during the year 1998 and during 2003 a secondary mine, Diavik Diamond Mine, was opened. In the year 2004 Yellowknife was ranked third within the nation with a production value of roughly C$2.1 billion and 6th in the country by weight, coming out with 2,524 kg. During the year 2007 De Beer's Lake Diamond Mine, a third mine, went into production. Construction of a forth mine, likewise owned by De Beers, was started in the year 2010 and is estimated to start production during the year 2012.
